For the past few years, Delhi is facing a water crisis. Delhi keeps an eye on Himachal for water. There has been a stir in this matter for the past few days. Delhi is demanding water from Himachal to quench its thirst. The Himachal government has clarified that Himachal is not stopping water from the Yamuna river flowing from Sirmaur and 137 cusecs of water from Himachal is going towards Haryana. These days, due to the scorching heat, there is a water crisis in Himachal as well.
Due to the intense heat of the last few days, the water level of the schemes has fallen. In such a situation, people are not getting sufficient water and have to resort to natural sources located several kilometers away for water.
No plan on Yamuna: According to the Jal Shakti Department, although there is no drinking water and irrigation scheme of any kind on Yamuna, but the drinking water schemes located on Yamuna’s tributary rivers Giri, Bata and Tons etc. are quenching the thirst of thousands of people, while the irrigation schemes have become a boon for the farmers. Yamuna river enters the Khadar Majri of Paonta Sahib from the Uttarakhand region. The amount of water in Yamuna is less when it reaches here. The water level increases after the tributary rivers Tons, Giri and Bata join it.
361 drinking water schemes on tributary rivers
According to the department, 361 drinking water schemes have been established directly on Yamuna’s tributary rivers Giri, Bata and Tons and on their tributary ravines. These schemes quench the thirst of millions of people in cities and rural areas.
